The previous answer doesn't seem to be of any use at all: the printer manufacturer apparently has a Windows 7 printer driver, but Microsoft tells you the printer is 'incompatible' with Windows 7, so you should contact the printer manufacturer!

The easiest fix would probably be to upgrade your operating system to a free or open source Linux-based system, which will recognise your printer and simply ask you for permisson to install a suitable driver, but you may prefer to stay with the costlier software vendor.

If you do want to persevere with trying to use the MicroSoft product with this printer, I would recommend uninstalling the existing printer driver and rebooting the machine (it's Windows, so it ill take a while). Install the HP Universal Printer Driver, reboot (it's Windows) and see if you can print a test page.

(To print a test page, simply press the green 'Go' button on the top of the HP2550 printer.)
If the first driver doesn't work, uninstall, reboot and install the PCL6 driver, reboot again and print a test page.
If that doesn't work, uninstall, reboot and try again with PCL5 driver, and yet again if necessary with the PostScript (PS) driver.
FWIW, I have a domestic setup with a variety of computers (Win XP, Win7, Ununtu Linux and OSX) that all print to an HP2550Ln that is connected to the network via ethernet cable.
If you have the HP2550n you might try connecting your printer to your network hub or switch with an ehternet cable and using it as a network printer rather than using the USB or parallel port connector.
